PACIFIC NORTHWEST DRILL TEAM ASSOCIATION During 1999 Gail Williams presented to the drill communities of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana the suggestion of forming an association for any type of drill team, because each of those states has a Women’s Drill Team association and there are other teams, such as youth, men’s or co-ed who are not eligible for membership. The suggestion was taken to heart and the Regional Pacific Northwest Drill Team Association was formed, to include ANY drill team from the four state area. The proposal included several divisions to cover all disciplines of drill teams; i.e. Rodeo, Theatrical, Gaited, etc. The first Association President was Ken McClaws from the Desperados Co-ed Drill Team of Eugene, Oregon, followed by Troy Valentine of the C C Riders from Olympia, Washington. Officers are elected for a two year term, with the President and Secretary elected the same year, then the Vice-President and Treasurer elected the opposite years. (See Officer Directory for current slate.) Our first competition was held in the summer of 2000 at Goldendale, Washington with five teams participating. The association schedules events in Eastern Washington or Oregon every other year in order to help draw teams from Idaho and Montana. The Bitterroot Mountettes from Hamilton, Montana have participated several times over the past five years. (See the RESULTS page for further information on past champions.) |
